KVRTA to Implement Bus Service to Yeager Airport March 2, 2009
Charleston, WV: On Monday, March 2nd, 2009 The Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority (KVRTA) will begin providing three trips daily, Monday - Friday from the Downtown Laidley Street Transit Mall to Yeager Airport. KVRTA, the Kanawha County Commission and the Airport Authority have discussed transit service to Yeager Airport have been working together to make this service a possibility. The recent implementation of the Intelligent Transit (IT) between Huntington and Charleston provide the spark to revisit and begin the service. “The new service to the airport will connect with the Huntington to Charleston service at the Transit Mall allowing individuals, including Marshall Students, Putnam County and Kanawha County residents, an option of utilizing Yeager Airport for their travel needs” said Dennis Dawson, KVRTA General Manager. “In addition, it opens an option for Airport employees and local citizens to more readily access Yeager Airport”.
The first trip leaves (after the Huntington to Charleston IT trip arrives at the Transit Mall at 8:00 AM) the Transit Mall at approximately 8:05 AM and will arrive at the airport around 8:25 AM returning to the Transit Mall at 8:40 AM. The second trip leaves the Transit Mall 11:20 AM and arrives at the airport at 11:40 AM returning to the Transit Mall at 12:00 PM. The third trip leaves the Transit Mall at 4:20 PM and arrives at the airport at 4:40 PM returning to the Transit Mall at 5:10 PM. The Charleston to Huntington IT bus leaves the Transit Mall at 5:15 PM. The fare for the service is $1.00 per trip.
The new service was approved by its Board of Members in February meeting.
